ABOUT THE KANSAS CITY ARTIST

Elizabeth Heule is a Kansas City artist whose journey is deeply intertwined with her indigenous roots in New Mexico and her background in architecture. Born in Albuquerque, she grew up surrounded by the vibrant culture and stunning landscapes of the Southwest, which significantly influenced her artistic vision. Her formative years in Missouri cultivated a passion for art and design, leading her to study architecture at Kansas State University.

Although Elizabeth found success as an architect and facilities manager, the allure of New Mexico's landscapes and spiritual essence remained strong. This connection prompted her to delve into jewelry-making and beadwork, where she found a meditative practice to express not only her artistic vision but also a profound message of remembrance. Through her creations, Elizabeth honors her Indigenous ancestors who have been unjustly treated throughout history as North America was colonized by explorers and settlers.

Each piece she creates features intricate patterns and vibrant colors that draw from the beauty of the Southwest, while embodying her commitment to social justice and cultural remembrance.  A significant aspect of her work also raises awareness about missing and murdered Indigenous women (MMIW) and the ongoing plight of vulnerable women in this country.  

Today, Elizabeth's artwork beautifully reflects her unique journey — a synthesis of architectural precision and artistic fervor, deeply rooted in the cultural richness of New Mexico. Through her creations, she invites others to explore these themes of remembrance and awareness, sharing the tranquility and inspiration that resonate within our creative spirits.
