Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW)
MMIW is a heartbreaking crisis that has gained national attention in recent years, revealing the systemic violence faced by Indigenous women across North America. According to a report by the National Institute of Justice in 2021, Indigenous women are murdered at a rate of 10 times higher than the national average. Additionally, a staggering 84% of Indigenous women experience violence in their lifetime, with many cases going unreported or unsolved. This underscores the urgent need for advocacy and support for affected families.
To contribute to this important cause, Orenda donates 50% of sales from MMIW themed earrings to organizations (currently National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center (NIWRC.org) and StrongHearts Native Hotline (StrongHeartsHelpLine.org) that are at the forefront of addressing this crisis. These funds support initiatives that provide advocacy, resource center, hotline & victim support services, and helping to raise awareness while fostering change for the safety of Indigenous women and girls.
